UNILAG has broken records again as they become the first university in Nigeria to acquire humanoid robots.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, in his welcome address on Monday, June 29, 2020, thanked Platform Capital for this gesture as well as Friends of the University who have supported the University in various ways over the years. He assured that the robots will be deployed to the University Library, the College of Medicine, and the University of Lagos Business School.

The Chairman, Platform Capital, Dr. Akintoye Akindele, in his address, stated that Platform Capital is fully aligned with the vision of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ogundipe which is to make the University number one in Africa and one of the best in the world. Consequent to this, the donation was made in order to improve the learning experience in the University Library and the University as a whole.

The robots are very interactive and can help detect unwanted items. It can also check body temperature and direct a person to a location they are finding difficult to get to.

The profiling robot would help the security agents on campus detect those with dangerous items within the campus.

This will help in making sure that the campus and its students are safe and not under any security threat whatsoever.

The robots, CRZR, are cloud-based intelligent humanoid robots which have the following features:

  • Face recognition
  • Surveillance Technology
  • Open API
  • Data Management
  • Advert & Promotion
  • Book Shelf Management
  • Research
  • Customizable
  • Entry Validation

Such was a great gift to the University as it will help them tremendously. Also, UNILAG may as well become the first school in Africa to have acquired these robots given to them.
